Privacy Policy

How Ate Local collects, uses, and protects your information. Written to be clear, human, and easy to understand.

Effective January 1, 2026

Effective Date

This Privacy Policy is effective as of January 1, 2026. It applies to your use of Ate Local (the "Service"), operated by 8-L ("we", "us", "our").

Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly, information generated as you use the Service, and limited information from third-party providers that help us operate the platform.

  • Account information — email address, password, and optional profile details such as display name, photo, home market, and account type.
  • Business information — details you submit to list, claim, or manage a business, including name, address, category, hours, photos, and contact info.
  • User content — reviews, ratings, photos, saved lists, followed markets, and other submissions.
  • Payment metadata — plan, billing cycle, and Stripe customer identifiers. We do not store full card numbers.
  • Usage data — pages viewed, features used, device and browser type, approximate location derived from IP, and referring URLs.

How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Service.
  • Create and manage your account and business listings.
  • Process payments and manage Featured Placement subscriptions.
  • Personalize your experience, including suggested cities and businesses.
  • Send transactional emails and, if you opt in, product updates.
  • Prevent fraud, enforce our Terms of Service, and keep the community safe.

We do not sell your personal information.

Cookies & Local Storage

We use cookies and browser local storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand aggregate usage. You can disable cookies in your browser, but parts of the Service may not function correctly without them.

Analytics

We use privacy-respecting analytics to understand how the Service is used in aggregate. Analytics data helps us prioritize improvements and is not used to build advertising profiles about you.

Stripe Payment Processing

Payments for Featured Placements and other paid features are processed by Stripe. When you make a payment, information such as your card details is submitted directly to Stripe and handled under Stripe's privacy and security practices. We receive only the payment metadata needed to manage your subscription (for example, plan, status, and last four digits of the card).

Business Listings

Information submitted for business listings — including business name, address, hours, category, description, and photos — is intended to be displayed publicly on the Service. Do not include information in a business listing that you do not want to be publicly visible.

User Content

Reviews, ratings, photos, and other content you post to the Service are generally public. Your display name and profile photo may appear alongside your submissions. You are responsible for the content you post and should not share personal details you want to keep private.

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account, we remove or anonymize personal information within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Delete your account and associated personal information.
  • Export a copy of your data.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@8-l.com.

Children's Privacy

Ate Local is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to remove it.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice through the Service or by email.
